Statement of Recall

Why We're Recalling
Tina Fredericks

TL;DR
  • She campaigned against school closures, then secretly built a plan to close seven.
  • She coordinated with board members in private, violating California's Brown Act.
  • She called neighborhood schools "prime real estate." The research says closures harm kids and don't save money.
Full Statement

Tina Fredericks has lost the trust of the community she was elected to serve. She campaigned against school closures, yet as PUSD Board President she is advancing a "2027 consolidation plan" that threatens neighborhood schools.

Tina has also been accused of violating California's Brown Act by secretly coordinating school closure discussions outside of public view, shutting parents and taxpayers out of decisions that impact their children and neighborhoods. Public education decisions should happen transparently, not behind closed doors.

Most troubling, Tina has framed Don Benito and other schools as "prime real estate" instead of recognizing them as community anchors that educate children, support families, and strengthen neighborhoods. While existing vacant PUSD properties remain unmanaged, underutilized and undervalued, Tina continues pushing consolidation that closes more schools, eliminates jobs, and further destabilizes communities.

Research shows school closures often lead to lower attendance, lower academic performance, reduced graduation rates, and lasting harm to students. Families deserve leadership focused on protecting public education, not treating schools as development opportunities.

Our schools, students, and neighborhoods deserve better.
